The other reviewers wrote that this slim book is a good tool for planning a trip to Istanbul, and I agree. Reading it helped me decide, beforehand, where i would focus my attention. However, once I was there, the book was infuriating. The instructions that had seemed adequate were vague and inaccurate. Worst of all, the way the information is subdivided, you could walk two blocks from something you meant to see, but only realize afterwards you were almost there. This is not a worthless book, but it should not be your only tour guide while visiting Istanbul.
This little guide was perfect in helping to plan and guide us through our 2 days in Istanbul. It's size also made it very handy to carry through the city. Hits all the high points to see in the city and provides enough detail for the casual tourist. The map provided in the book was also quite helpful. Very glad I did not bring a heavier more bulky book on the trip. If you are planning a longer stay in Istanbul one of the more detailed guides might serve you better. For a short stay this guide was perfect.
We will be traveling to Istanbul in the fall, but we have already been able to choose our locations for lodging and touring. We used Frommer's when we last traveled by train throughout western Europe and it was invaluable.
excellent volume with enough detail and background to allow you to avoid tour guides and group tours. it is very useful for trip planning and organization.
The day-by-day guides are especially helpful - helping to set priorities.
