My 4 year old son is in to dinosaurs right now and he enjoyed this book a lot. Rhyme verse and cute illustrations kept him fully engaged!

A captivating tale for young readers that will make them laugh and think. More than a clever story in rhyming verse, with adorable illustrations; “Alfred the Time Traveling Dinosaur” shares several lessons disguised as a kid sized adventure.Fun to read and share, this book will spark lots of laughs and conversations, while pointing out some problems with bullies and the possibilities with friends. As a bonus, within the story, young readers will be introduced to a collection of dinosaurs with interesting names.Throw in the free downloadable coloring book and even a chance to suggest future adventures for their dinosaur friend and a new fan of reading and storytelling may be the result.

Alfred the Time Traveling Dinosaur is a cute little book that teaches the age old lesson to treat others how you would want to be treated.I really enjoyed this book. As someone who's worked extensively with children, I've read dozens of children's books that are terrible. This is one of the better books that I've come across. Alfred, the main character, is an adorable dinosaur who likes to go around scaring people. Similar to the fable of the mouse and the lion, Alfred finds himself in trouble and no one is willing to help him because he's been mean to everyone. Alfred meets other dinosaurs, visits a museum, and meets children in the story. The story is very cute and clever, fun to read, fast moving, and held the interest of the 5-7 year old's that I read this book to.I would give this book five stars, but there are some changes that I would LOVE to see made to this book that could make it a five star book. Some of the pages have white text which is extremely hard to read. I cannot imagine a beginning reader trying to read the white text themselves, it is just painful on the eyes, even for myself, a reading lover. The beginning promises coloring pages that you can download, but it leads to the author's website and you have to provide an e-mail address to download the coloring pages. I'm not keen on passing out an e-mail address just for some coloring pages when there are thousands of coloring pages available on the Internet for free that don't require personal information. The author's phone number appears in the sign on little sorbet place that Alfred is by as well, talk about self promotion! Some of the rhyming in this book needs some work. Not all of the sentences rhyme like they should, so the book does not flow as smoothly as it could. The improper capitalization of every sentence, even when it's a continuing sentence, makes it even more difficult to read this book. Example: He would roam around the land, Looking for someone to play (new line) A very special game he was playing that very day". When a child tries to read it, they are used to pausing for commas and periods, but the sentences feel more like run on sentences rather than well written rhymes. The only other thing that stood out at me was when Alfred meets two boys in the museum, it mentions the boys are 5'2" tall. I don't know too many kids that tall. It seemed like they should have been adults, or had a different height. In the end, the book has a happy ending, and Alfred (and readers) are taught that when you treat others fairly and nicely, they will be friends with you and treat you nicely in return. A great lesson, adorable illustrations, and fun characters make this a book that I would definitely recommend!

Alfred the Time Traveling Dinosaur is a book where the author has taken time to format it to take up the entire Kindle screen, it displays in landscape mode like an open book with two pages together on the screen. If you've ever downloaded self published kindle picture books where you'll have text on one screen and the picture that's supposed to accompany it on the next, you'll know why this is good. The illustrations are very well done. The story itself doesn't always flow as nicely or smoothly as it should but still it's a decent story about a dinosaur who acts like a bit of jerk and therefore has no friends. It could have sort of ended a few times when he gets his tail caught up in a tree for example and a dinosaur he has tormented refuses to help him. When he goes back in time and learns these new small dinosaurs think he's a bit of joke but finally makes one of them his friend. But the problem is the story doesn't actually end, you've obviously got to buy the next book to find out if Alfred is successful when he journey's to the city? You could always stop reading to your kids when he makes the human friend though I guess and pretend that's the end of the story. The story also needs you to explain why Alfred in the future can't tell the difference between dead dinosaurs (skeletons) that you'd imagine he would have encountered when he eats other dinosaurs or just lying on the ground in his lifetime in the past, perhaps with a bit more flesh on them as they rot or whatever, and alive dinosaurs.

My kids have always been dinosaur fans, so no wonder I chose a book like this one to read. I am certain kids would love it, especially the lovely illustration, and it is very promising. I see that it is a series, so I guess it develops further. I was slightly dissapointed with the ending (avoiding spoilers) and the plot focus - from my experience in working with children, apart from a fun character (cute one here), the story needs a strong and simple basic plot which engages the children so that they feel they can participate in the solution. I prefer a clearer cut in the storyline, regardless of the fact that this is a series. Congrats to the illustrator!

Brandon Cullum did a great job in his first book, Alfred the Time Traveling Dinosaur. Kid's will definitely be engaged, reading this story. They'll really enjoy the brightly colored illustrations as well as the adorable story. Poor Alfred is baffled as to why he doesn't have friends. Whenever he plays his favorite game, he manages to scare everyone away. Readers will love the fact that Alfred travels to different places. They'll also be pleased to see that there are plans for more adventures for Alfred the Dinosaur. This was a fun, creative story that I highly recommend.Review by children's author, Deanie Humphrys-Dunne

Brandon Cullum is a talented illustrator and innovative story writer. But his ability to teach kids, and remind adults, the valuable lessons that "games are more fun for two than one" is a lasting story. I hope you read this story and are reminded that to live with community- sharing- and working together is better than being a mean dinosaur.
