Review
A Compromised Generation is a thorough and gripping account of the new reality for millions of children and their families. Beth Lambert - a clever, dedicated and courageous parent armed with maternal instincts and persuasive scientific facts - shows us why mothers know best. She explains how environmental insults have compromised the health and future of an entire generation and also provides well-researched strategies aimed at prevention. A Compromised Generation is a must read for protecting our children. (Deirdre Imus, best selling author)We are facing an epidemic of chronic illness in children, from obesity, to ADHD, autism, depression, mood disorders, asthma and allergy. Until now, this “Compromised Generation” and their parents have been given little understanding of WHY this is happening and how to fix this, except for covering over symptoms with medication. Beth Lambert takes us all the way to the roots of the problems in our toxic diet and toxic environment, and shows us a way to protect our children’s future. This is the future of medicine. If you have a child and want them to thrive, then you must read this book.--Mark Hyman, MD, four-time New York Times bestselling author, The UltraMind Solution and Fix Your Broken Brain by Healing Your Body First ; August 19, 2010 What is happening to our children? The epidemic disorders our children face raise this question. In her book, A Compromised Generation, Beth Lambert puts forth a cogent, well-written explanation of the suspected environmental factors involved in the current epidemics of autism, ADHD, asthma, allergies, obesity and diabetes, and includes thoughtful approaches to treatment. She also proposes strategies for prevention so that we may achieve our ultimate goal: to avoid compromising the next generation.--Kenneth A. Bock, MD, FAAFP, FACN, CNS, author of Healing the New Childhood Epidemics: Autism, ADHD, Asthma, and Allergies; August 19, 2010A Compromised Generation is a clear, rational, and compelling wake-up call for everyone who is concerned about the health of our future generations. In short, this is a terrific book!--Christiane Northrup, MD, Ob/Gyn physician, and author of the New York Times bestsellers Women's Bodies, Women's Wisdom and The Wisdom of Menopause; August 19, 2010This book is a must read for anyone who cares about children. We are witnessing an unparalleled rise in chronic health conditions in our kids, and we are in desperate need of a solution. Beth Lambert not only provides a clear and comprehensive assessment of the state of children's health today, but she also offers a practical roadmap to finding our way out of this mess. A Compromised Generation should be required reading for parents and health care practitioners everywhere.--Lawrence Rosen, MD,FAAP, Chief of Pediatric Integrative Medicine at Joseph M. Sanzari Children's Hospital, Hackensack University Medical Center, Chair of the Integrative Pediatrics Council, and medical advisor to the Deirdre Imus Environmental Center for Pediatric Oncology; August 23, 2010Aristo Vojdani, Phd, MSc, MT, Microbiology and Clinical Immunology, CEO and Technical Director of Immunosciences Lab, Los Angeles, CA; August 19, 2010Although genetic and environmental factors such as infections, toxic chemicals and modified dietary proteins and peptides have been implicated in causing many complex disorders, the American medical community refuses to embrace any explanation for autism outside of genetics. We have two choices. One option is to blame everything on the genetics of the unfortunate individual, sit down and do nothing but witness the drastic increase in autism, ADD, ADHD, allergies and asthma rates. Or option two, we can read A Compromised Generation by Beth Lambert, and accept that environmental triggers play a significant role. With option two there is hope. It concludes that we can do something about it.Children today are suffering from diseases which were once only illnesses of adults: diabetes, heart disease and autoimmune diseases. In addition, there are many new illnesses affecting our children, like developmental delays, chronic digestive disorders, hyperactivity, recurrent infections and autism. There has never been a time in our history plagued by so many new and chronic diseases. Because of this, many parents are at a loss because their doctors don’t have the needed answers. Beth Lambert, a concerned parent, has asked the tough question “WHY?” She has interviewed and questioned teachers, parents, doctors and other experts in an effort to find a pathway through this minefield of health issues. Along the way she has found success stories of those who didn’t settle for bad news, but set out to find answers. This is the owner’s manual for parents and especially those parents with sick or disabled children.--Dr. Tobin Watkinson, acupuncturist, clinical nutritionist, chiropractor, psychologist, and practitioner at Scripps Health Medical Office, San Diego, CA; August 23, 2010There is no doubt that our brains are connected to our guts, and that our immune systems are affected by what goes on in our intestines.A Compromised Generation explains in layperson’s language how that works – and the damage poor digestion can eventually wreak on the rest of our bodies.--Natural Child MagazineA Compromised Generation: The Epidemic of Chronic Illness in America’s Children by Beth Lambert looks at the prevalence of chronic childhood illness, such as asthma and autism, and offers an alternative perspective for its causes and treatments. She argues that poor diet and nutrition impacts the body’s bacterial balance and compromises a child’s immune system, which takes further abuse from environmental toxins and overprescribed medications, including vaccines. Without militancy, she calls parents and society to reduce such problems. This could mean eating more organic foods and using natural household products. Her perspective may, at times, be mildly controversial. Nevertheless, it encourages parents to consider a lifestyle that may differ from their neighbors’, but could transform their children’s well-being.--ForeWord Review; November 29, 2010There are dangers to our growing children, and many aren't even aware of them. A Compromised Generation: The Epidemic of Chronic Illness in America's Children discusses the seemingly chronic illness that affect many of today's children in the wide array of forms such as autism, diabetes, and many other disorders. Placing the blame on over use of pharmaceutical drugs, vaccines, and other elements, "A Compromised Generation" is worth considering for parents who are suspicious of the things that could be the cause of sicknesses.--Wisconsin Bookwatch

This is an extremely well documented book describing the modern day plight of our children. I am in health and wellness and knew things were bad but reading these statistics really drove home just how bad things are for this generation of children. It breaks your heart to hear so many kids are dealing with chronic illness. What's worse is modern medicine has few, if any answers for most of these diseases other than starting kids on a lifetime of prescription medication in an attempt to manage symptoms, while never addressing the underlying issue. In addition to these poor children and their families having to deal with these illnesses, this is a huge cost to our society quickly approaching a trillion dollars annually just to manage. The good news is, Beth Lambert offers hope. Something all of these parents need. She shares a number of case studies of children reversing chronic conditions such as autism, severe allergies, asthma, and autoimmune disease. Beth also shares very simple and practical recommendation that any parent can do to reverse disease, keep their children healthy, and give them a much better chance of living up to their full potential.
Excellent, well researched book explaining our current epidemic of chronic illness, how it came to be and what we can do about it. I just ordered a second one for our school principal. This is a book that everyone should read, because it affects so many, and likely, eventually everyone if things do not change. Parents and others can work to help make the world a better place, with whatever opportunities they have, whether they are big or small. Too many of our children are chronically ill. And too many adults. Its time for a change, and reading this book and sharing the information in it is an excellent way to start. It is also a good book for those who already have a good understanding of the problem, though I thought I did there were new things I learned. Imagine if this were required reading for pediatricians, legislators and those involved with public policy...
This is a truly wonderful book packed with masses of health giving information for mothers, helping them better understand and research any health problem that their children may be suffering from. There is so much information contained within each chapter that rather than try to describe it with examples will not give you any real understanding of how valuable this book is; I can only say read the book
Well researched and informative. Much of this information isn't being discussed in doctor's office appointments- and it's a shame. My hope would be that every parent does their own research, and learns the answers to the major problems with childhood health and healthcare (or lack there of).
I feel very lucky to have read this book when I did. By chance, the manuscript of this book was passed on to me at the time when I needed it most. When my son was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder I had no idea what to do to help him. I did tons of research, met with many and varied practitioners and read a lot of books. But THIS book was the one that served as my blueprint to healing him.Ms.Lambert deftly explains why children are getting sick and what to do about it. Her book is well supported by documented research so I felt comfortable with the material. As I read it, it did really resonate with me and for the first time I felt hope that my son could be healed. I had already been doing alot of research, but this book inspired me to research healing methods that I had not heard of anywhere else. And incidentally, those methods were the ones that helped my son the most. I can safely say that my son would not be doing as well as he is now if I had not read this book. Before this book, my son had severe gastrointestinal problems with chronic constipation. He also had chronic ear infections and constant mucous flowing from his nose. He had no eye contact and couldn't speak - he did moan alot though. He spent most of the day tantrumming or banging his head against the wall and stimming. He did not know how to play with toys and did not interact with people. I thought this is how he would be for the rest of his life. Now that we have applied several healing modalities such as a healing diet, nutritional supplements, etc..my son is a new person. He is the cuddliest kid and loves his family and friends. He can speak very clearly and will carry on complex conversations. He no longer qualifies for special services and he doesn't need them. He goes to a mainstream school and people that didn't know him before can hardly believe me when I tell them what he used to be like.It has taken time and alot of hard work - but it is soooo worth it to know that my son will have a life with love and family and friends and knowledge and play - all those things that many of us take for granted.Every kid deserves this chance - but for some it will only happen if we parents/caregivers begin to realize that there is an epidemic in this country and we each have to take measures to end it. Reading this book is a vital step towards this goal.
